Botox is not a 4 letter word.
Contrary to popular belief, Botox is not scary. Botox has been used in patients to treat muscle spasms in the face and neck safely and repeatedly for over 20 years. It has many indications, including cosmetic, excessive sweating, migraines, TMJ etc. Botox's cosmetic indication was discovered coincidentally after seeing the youthful effects on the patients who were having it injected for medical reasons. Botox is intended to soften the lines, but still allow expression. When used over time, it actually has a preventative effect in the forehead, and helps the brow from drooping. It will also improve skin quality and texture in the areas it is injected.
Plastic surgery looks fake
There is nothing plastic about good plastic surgery. Faces that are too frozen, pulled, puffed, or scooped do not resemble anything found in nature. This, by definition, is not aesthetic or pretty. We as human beings are hardwired to identify beauty. Studies of infants show that even babies respond to photographs of more attractive people. In order to be beautiful the features must adhere to certain mathematical proportions. When these proportions are off, the human eye can spot it a mile away, or at least across a restaurant. A good plastic surgeon knows this and "good" results are not always obvious.
Less is more
This is very individually based. Especially when doing anti-aging procedures, many procedures eg face and eyes work synergistically together so that 1+1=10. Sometimes rejuvenating only part of the face actually causes some disharmony, which can detract from an otherwise excellent result. We also know that with aging come many different changes, skin laxity, volume loss, muscle descent, etc. These must all be addressed for a true rejuvenation procedure.
Plastic Surgery is about vanity
Most people looking for plastic surgery are not vain, they are just trying to look and feel better then they usually do. They may look tired or older than they feel. They just want to be happier with the reflection that they see in the mirror. Plastic surgery helps to merge the inside and the outside. People look better and feel more confident, which helps them interact better with other people, and this becomes a self-fulfilling cycle.
Plastic surgery turns ugly ducklings into swans.
Plastic surgery is not extreme makeover, nor is it intended to be a metamorphosis. Plastic surgery should make you look like your best you, not someone else entirely. As, much as plastic surgery changes the outside, real change come s from within. An ideal patient should have reasonable expectations, and expect improvement, not perfection. Plastic surgery is not intended to be a transformation. Plastic surgery should also not be performed in patients who are in poor health, either emotionally or medically. Times of crisis are not good times to embark on plastic surgery. |
