How to Get Kissable Lips for Valentine’s Day

With Valentine’s Day just a few days away, creating the most kissable lips may be on your radar. We’ve tested out a few ways to combat the cold, dry weather and ensure perfectly luscious lips.

Here is what we found to get the job done:

Exfoliate: We spend time exfoliating our complexion, scalp and even our feet, but how often do you slough off the dead cells on our lips? Once a week, use a lip scrub to gently exfoliate and remove dead skin. We love the Sara Happ Lip Scrub in Pink Grapefruit.

Pro Tip: Prefer to make one at home? Mix one teaspoon honey with two teaspoons of coarse brown sugar and a drop of coconut oil. Massage the mixture into your lips and leave for 10 minutes and remove gently with a wet washcloth.

Heal and rejuvenate: After removing dry skin, it’s key to replenish and protect the newly exposed skin. The best time to do this is at night when your lips are resting. That’s why we recommend LANEIGE Lip Sleeping Mask (Berry is our fave!). Not only does it smell great, but it is enriched with antioxidants, Vitamin C and a trademarked moisturizing technology that forms a protective layer on your lips to lock in moisture.

Hydrate yourself:  In addition to moisturizing your lips directly, it is important to drink at least 8 glasses of water per day, depending on your level of activity. During the dry winter months, you can dehydrate even quicker than in the hot, humid summer months! A week of proper hydration can show results as plump lips and better complexion overall, so if you haven’t been getting enough water, start now!

Lip filler: If you’d like to make enhancements to your lips that can last for up to a year with virtually no downtime, consider lip fillers. There are many to choose from, and Dr. Levine will help you select the right one for your goals.

Restylane Kysse, a lip filler that debuted in 2020, is one of our most popular lip fillers, as it produces results that look and feel natural, moving seamlessly with your facial expressions.

In addition to adding volume, lip filler also helps improve the appearance of fine lines, improve skin texture and even balance your overall facial appearance. In the before-and-after below, you can see how the addition of lip filler to the top lip evened out the patient’s chin-to-top-lip line.

Highlight with lip gloss:  Whether you’re going with a traditional cherry red or prefer more natural colors, lip gloss is a great way to accentuate your pout. Dr. Levine’s personal favorite is Dior Addict Lip Maximizer Plumping Gloss.
