Over time the face and neck lose their youthful architecture, the skin of the face and neck begins to drop. The jawline becomes less defined and jowls form. Extra folds develop in the front of the neck creating a double chin. The modern facelift restores the normal contours of youth without looking over-pulled or windswept. Dr.Jennifer Levine uses the most advanced techniques available today to define the neck and jawline and elevate the cheeks for a natural and rejuvenated look
Surgery and Recovery:
The goal of face lift surgery or neck lift surgery is to obtain a natural, youthful result with as little downtime as possible. The incisions of the face lift surgery or neck lift surgery are all carefully hidden in the hairline and in front of and behind the ear. Usually liposuction or fat removal may be performed at the same time as the face lift surgery or neck lift surgery to further refine the profile. Excess skin is removed, and the deeper tissues of the face are repositioned and tightened to restore a youthful contour. The operation is usually performed under general anesthesia and lasts 3-4 hours. This surgery is performed on an ambulatory basis in a hospital setting. Dr. Jennifer Levine provides all her patients with a presurgical vitamin regimen to minimize bruising and maximize healing.
Face lift surgery and neck lift surgery is not especially painful, but all patients are provided pain medication to use if needed. A dressing is placed for the first 24 hours after surgery, and is removed. Some bruising and swelling is to be expected. Dr.Jennifer Levine will review what can be done to minimize this. Cold compresses and head elevation while lying down are necessary. Any sutures or clips that are placed are removed within 5-10 days following the surgery. Some itching and/or numbness at the incision sites may occur during the healing process. Most people are able to return to work in about 2 weeks. Makeup can be worn after the stitches have been removed. The positive changes of facial surgery will be apparent quickly. The healing process, however, is a gradual one, and additional changes will continue to occur over 6-9 months.
Myths about Face and Neck Lifts
Myth: Facelifts make your face look tight and unnatural.
This is false. The facelifts of the past resulted in a windswept look. The advanced techniques used today by Dr.Levine donít produce this result. Dr. Levine supports the muscles and soft tissue under the skin to achieve a natural and unoperated look.
Myth: Facelifts are for old people.
This is false. Facelifts are for anyone, man or woman, old or young, who would like to look younger. Many people ask, "When am I ready for a facelift?" The answer is whenever you are dissatisfied with something along your jawline or neck that looks droopy, lumpy, or poorly defined. A facelift done at 45 will allow you that much longer to enjoy the results of your surgery. We will assess your features carefully during our first consultation and talk to you in detail about what face and neck lifts can and can not do for you.
Myth: Once you've had a facelift, you need to keep having more.
This is false. A facelift can make you look five or ten years younger, and that improvement is permanent. That means that if you happen to be 55 now, and look 45 after surgery, you will continue to look ten years younger as the years pass. Many people have second operations when they again reach a point that they look older than they feel. Surgery can not stop you from aging, but it can help you look much better for your age.
